Poughkeepsie Walkway Entrance Closed For Construction
The Poughkeepsie entrance to the Walkway Over The Hudson is closed for Thursday, June 4 for construction. According to information on their social media pages, this means that access to the park from west of the Dutchess Welcome Center will be restricted for everyone's safety.
Access from the Poughkeepsie entrance all the way to the elevator entrance will be unavailable. The elevator remains closed so those wishing to access the Walkway must enter from the Highland side. Access via the staircase on Washington Street will also be closed.
There is also the Walkway Loop Trail which crosses the Mid Hudson Bridge and is a 4.4-mile loop that passes through the City of Poughkeepsie. Both the William R. Steinhaus Dutchess Rail Trail and the Hudson Valley Rail Trail in Ulster County will not see any disruptions.
The new East Gate Plaza, when completed, will more than double the size of the park space atop the Washington Street staircase. Work is also being done to replace the original retaining wall built in the 1880s.
While the Poughkeepsie entrance will reopen Friday, future extended closures are possible.
