
Upstate New York Teen Dies After Medical Emergency at Volleyball Tournament
A weekend volleyball tournament in Boston, MA turned tragic after an Upstate New York High School student went into cardiac arrest and later passed away.
Teenager Goes Into Cardiac Arrest at Boston Volleyball Tournament
According to WCVB, first responders in the Boston area were called to respond to the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center Friday night, February 21st for a report of a cardiac arrest. Upon arrival, the unidentified boy victim, who apparently suffered a medical emergency, was transported to a nearby hospital to receive treatment.
At the time authorities said that the victim was competing at the Boston Volleyball Festival for an Upstate New York team, the Capital Region Sliders Volleyball Club.

Soon after the incident, the president of the tournament, AJ Joseph, issued a statement saying,
"We recognize the impact such incidents have on the entire volleyball community, and we remain committed to providing any necessary assistance and resources during this time."
Teen Tragically Passes Away
Days later, on Tuesday, February 25th, authorities announced that the teenager died as a result of the medical emergency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.
Teenager Identified
The teenager was identified as 16-year-old John P. Verbo, a junior at Colonie Central High School, in Albany, New York, according to WRGB. Verbo was born in Albany and was known for his vibrant personality, a love for sports, and an infectious enthusiasm for life.
He played multiple sports including basketball, volleyball, and pickleball, and had a love for music. His obituary reads,
"His sense of humor, warm heart, and natural athleticism made him a friend to all who knew him."
Calling hours for relatives and friends are scheduled for Friday, March 7th from 3 to 8 p.m., at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 a.m., at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, at 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville, NY.
