The Hudson Valley is a desired location to not only visit but to reside in. Residents enjoy it’s beautiful views and hiking trails along with an abundance of local breweries, wineries and eateries.

History buffs could never get bored learning about the rich, historical influences and hidden gems of the Hudson Valley area as well.

I love traveling but always have an appreciation for New York state, especially the Hudson Valley. There truly isn’t anywhere similar to this area.

It'sinteresting how the Hudson Valley has areas with similiar names that may not be near one another.

Which New York State Areas Have Similiar Names?

94.3 Lite FM explained that some New York state areas have similiar names including Rochester. There’s a Rochester in upstate New York and that's located in Monroe County. There’s a Town of Rochester in Ulster County as well.

As for Wallkill’s, there's a Town of Wallkill in Orange County and the Hamlet of Wallkill in the Ulster County area.

In addition to Rochester and Wallkill, there’s also two different areas in the Hudson Valley that have similar names including Catskill (s).

Where Is Catskill, NY?

Catskill is a village that’s located in Greene County, NY. This historic area has a fun main street to explore with different shops and locally owned businesses.

The last time that I visited Catskill, NY I took in the sights of the Catskill’s Cats which are known as Cat’n Around Catskill. They had over 50 cat statues that were made by local artists out on display on Catskill’s main street. This is the 19th year that Cat’n Around Catskill has been available to the community and I recommend checking it out!

Also in Catskill, there’s the Thomas Cole National Historic Site which is a nonprofit organization. On site, guests can learn about the history of Thomas Cole and his influence on not only the culture but the landscapes in the Catskill area. There’s self-guided tours, lectures and more that are available at Thomas Cole National Historic Site.

In addition to Catskill, there’s also THE Catskills which is what we may hear people referring to the most.

Where Are The Catskills In New York State?

Everyone loves the Catskills Mountains but we may not know its exact locations.

Visit Catskills shared that the Catskills Mountains are located in New York state include,

“700,000 acres of the Catskill Park and occupies parts of four counties: Sullivan, Delaware, Greene and Ulster.”

The Catskills are most known for its natural, beautiful landscapes that offer numerous outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, swimming and more. There’s also waterfalls to explore within the Catskills.

Visit Catskills also explained that the Catskill Mountains have 98 peaks!

94.3 Lite FM shared that the question remains on how the Catskills got its name but there are some suggestions.

While some believe that the Catskills name originates from a local creek and waterfall others may disagree.

However, there's also the speculation of the Catskills getting its name from cats such as mountain lions and bobcats who once roamed the area more frequently then they do now.
