Dutchess County NY Grants 5 With Cars and Way to Work Program

In this day and age reliable transportation is an absolute must to be able to get a job and then to also hold down a job. What would you do if you didn't have a car?

What is the Dutchess County New York 'Way to Work Program?'
Dutchess County’s Department of Community & Family Services (DCFS) and the Dutchess County Workforce Investment Board (DCWIB) have a "Way to Work" employment program that helps people who need assistance with their transportation issues. If you qualify for the program, you could earn a gently used car to help you get to and from work. How can you apply to be a part of the "Way to Work" program?
The "Way to Work" program was started in Dutchess County NY in 2001 and was originally called the "Wheels to Work Program." According to a press release, the process is open to families who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or whose family income is less than 200 percent of the poverty level.
In addition to showing need for the automobiles, those participating in the program must also take classes in financial boot camp, credit score workshops, vehicle registration and vehicle insurance services. The programs will even guide persons through the process of getting a drivers license and learning how to drive.
