Best Buy Announces Major Recall in New York, Injuries Reported
Do you have a pressure cooker? Maybe it is a multi-cooker or it could even have a brand name that you refer to it by. Think Insta-Pot by a different name? I have two of them and use them on a pretty frequent basis.
The first one I bought maybe 15 years ago. It was an electric pressure cooker. Growing up with a mom who used a stove-top pressure cooker that would rattle all night while she canned, this was a revolution. You didn't need pressure weights and could set it and forget it.
Then a few years ago, I decided I needed a bigger one that did more 'things.' It is this one, the 'bigger one,' that has a recall on it. Here's what's been recalled and why.
Best Buy Recalls Insignia Multi-Function Cooker
Which items have been recalled? The Insignia brand models NS-MC60SS8, NS-MC60SS9, or NS-MC80SS9, and inner cooker pots with model numbers NS-MCRP6NS9 and NS-MCRP6SS9.
Why have they been recalled? The measuring markers are apparently incorrect (see an example in the photo below) which could cause the user to add excessive amounts of ingredients. The cooker should not be filled more than 2/3's with ingredients.
Have people been injured by this recall?
According to the recall, 31 persons have been injured because of the cookers 'expelling the contents' and burns because of it.
What is the fix for this recall? Best Buy will send you a replacement inner pot (with the correct measurement markings) as well as a new pressure float for the pot. You will need to fill out the form and register to get the new cooking insert mailed to you.
