Have you been looking to get into a new career field? Are you thinking that green energy programs have the potential to keep people employed for a long time? How would you even begin to get into that field? Is there a way to get help navigating the whole scene?

Yes, you are correct! Green energy programs, ie heat pumps, house sealing, wind, and solar power, are here to stay and will continue to expand as the costs of oil, gas, and electricity continue to go up. So where can you learn, learn from people who are currently doing these jobs, and get paid for it? Even get certified for it?

Where can you learn about these Green Programs? Will they pay you to do it?

Ok, there is a program with the City of Kingston (2022 Empower Kingston Clean Energy Jobs Training Program sponsored by Communities for Local Power (CLP)) and SUNY Ulster. With this program, participants (limited to 20) will get introductory on-the-job training (and mentorship) in the areas of geothermal, heat pumps, solar panels, and more.

So the program is limited to 20 people, who can apply for the program? Any restrictions?

Yes, only 20 people will be accepted into this paid training program. Applicants must live within 20 miles of Kingston, New York, and be at least 18 years of age. While it is limited, there might also be assistance for transportation, plus boots and tools will be provided.

Are you guaranteed a job when the 8-week training period is complete?

The training program runs from July 30 through October 3, 2022. The pay for the persons in the program is $15 per hour, and while you are not guaranteed employment at the end of the program, you will have been working with professionals in these green energy fields who may be hiring.
