I enjoy visiting the New York State Thruway Authority's social media platforms. They have informative posts and share things that we may not think about.
On December 17, 2024, The New York State Thruway Authority shared helpful information for drivers.
"New York state law requires drivers to have legible plates on the front AND back of a vehicle."
The New York State Thruway Authority also explained,
"Failure to follow the law can result in a traffic stop and fines."
This license plate law in New York state seems to make sense to me but let's see what others think.

Facebook users brought up interesting points about license plates within New York state. They also compared the law in New York state to other states.
What States Require Drivers To Have Two License Plates On Their Vehicles?
In 2024, Autolist shared information about what states require drivers to have two license plates on their vehicles.
They explained that there are 29 states that require drivers of vehicles to have a front and also a rear license plate visible.
Some of these states include California, Colorado, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Texas, Wyoming and more.
We're already aware of New York state requiring drivers to have this on their vehicles.
What States Only Require Drivers To Have One License Plate On Their Vehicles?
Autolist also shared a list of states that require their drivers to only have rear plates on their vehicles. Drivers in certain states can have one license plate on their vehicles including Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Georgia and other states.
Personally, I don't mind being a driver in New York state and having two license plates on our vehicles. This isn't something that I thought about before and don't see an issue with it. What do you think? Share more with us below.
