Update: 22 Fearful Dogs Saved From Terrible Hoarding Situation in Dutchess County

More details were released over the weekend regarding a hoarding situation in Dutchess County.

Last week, The Dutchess County SPCA shared that dozens of Great Dane dogs were rescued from an extreme hoarding case. There weren't many details then, but now more information has been released regarding the hoarding situation and how many large breed dogs were saved.

Over the weekend, The Ulster County SPCA wrote in a statement that this was one of the "worst hoarding cases" they have seen adding "these conditions were unlivable for any species."  After everything was said and done 22 large breed dogs were saved from a home in Milan, New York.

According to the post, The Town of Milan Dog Control Officer asked for assistance removing what they thought was only 9 Great Danes from a home after the owner passed away. A call came in that the number was actually 15, but by the end of the day things changed. The Ulster County SPCA explains further writing:

However, by the end of the day 22 fearful dogs were removed from a hoarding house and a yard filled with ankle deep mud and feces.

While discussing the conditions the dogs were found in the Ulster County SPCA explained:

22 large breed dogs, piled on each other and scrambling in fear from the strangers in their home was heartbreaking. They were all under-socialized and had never been on a leash, and as a result, required the use of control poles for removal, only amplifying their fear.

With that being said, UCSPCA wanted the public to know that these dogs, while the conditions they were living in were harsh, were well loved stating "These dogs were not malnourished; our belief is that he loved these dogs."

It looks like there are brighter days ahead for these rescues. The dogs are already coming around to human interaction. The Ulster County SPCA says that the dogs are in a safe place now with brighter futures ahead of them adding "These giants truly are gentle and are already coming around to a soft touch. They are inquisitive and curious, but timid and afraid."

At the end of the day, several Hudson Valley animal rescue organizations joined forces to get the dogs out of their prior situation. Along with the Ulster County SPCA Hudson Valley Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, Hudson Valley SPCA - Orange County, Dutchess County SPCA, Ulster County Canines, German Shephard Rescue, and Mid Atlantic Great Dane Rescue were all on the scene to assist.
