Governor Hochul Unveils 21 Ambitious Projects to Transform the Mid-Hudson Region

Governor Kathy Hochul has revealed a bold initiative comprising 21 transformative projects aimed at revitalizing the Mid-Hudson region. These projects, spanning both the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) and NY Forward programs, are set to breathe new life into areas including Port Jervis, Sleepy Hollow, Cornwall, and Cornwall-on-Hudson.

With a focus on economic development, Port Jervis emerges as a key recipient of a $10 million DRI award, with nine projects slated for implementation. These initiatives aim to create a vibrant, multi-generational downtown while preserving its historic charm and leveraging its scenic backdrop. Projects include the revitalization of Riverside Park and the establishment of mixed-use residential and commercial spaces.

Similarly, Cornwall and Cornwall-on-Hudson, recipients of a $4.5 million NY Forward award, are poised for transformation with seven slated projects. The aim here is to seamlessly blend cultural attractions with natural assets, fostering inclusivity and community engagement. Initiatives range from renovating the historic Storm King Theater to creating a pollinator connector trail.

$4.5 Million Promises Significant Enhancements

In Sleepy Hollow, another NY Forward recipient, five projects totaling $4.5 million promise significant enhancements. These include the transformation of the Strand Theatre into a community arts and culture center and the creation of a plaza and park at Morse School, underscoring a commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community.
