Major Storm Cancels Hudson Valley Festivals, See What’s Rescheduled
Mother Nature has been playing by her own rules this summer. Hurricane Opheila came through the Hudson Valley which gave local events and businesses no other decision than to cancel.
While the majority of the Hudson Valley only experienced rain and some wind, a lot of people felt as if they missed out on fun activities that were supposed to take place.
On a positive note, there is plenty of time and experiences to take in over the next couple of months in the Hudson Valley.
Soon enough, we'll be soaking up the fall foliage, picking apples and pumpkins, preparing for the spooky season and decorating for the holidays.
There is plenty to look forward to right in our area.
A Major Storm Cancels Hudson Valley Festivals, What's Rescheduled?
Popular Hudson Valley businesses and festivals were set to take place the weekend of September 23, 2023 through September 24, 2023, instead they were canceled.
Recently, a popular New York state festival was canceled due to "insurmountable hurdles''. Expected festival attendees shared their opinions in the comment section on Facebook of how they felt about this announcement. This cancellation took place in the beginning of September 2023, before the effects of Hurricane Opheila's storm in the Hudson Valley.
Let's take a look at Hudson Valley activities that will continue or replace these events.
Hudson Valley Irish Fest
This festival was supposed to take place Saturday, September 23, 2023 in Peekskill, NY. Instead,
An announcement was made by The Hudson Valley Irish Fest members,
"2023 HVIF Postponed due to Tropical Storm Ophelia"
"To our Hudson Valley Irish Fest Friends, Supporters, Vendors and wonderful Community, On behalf of our all-volunteer Board and committee, we hope this message finds you well. We wanted to reach out with some unfortunate news regarding tomorrow’s Hudson Valley Irish Fest at Peekskill Riverfront Green."
"Due to the forecast of what is now known as Tropical Storm Ophelia, a potentially dangerous storm, particularly, Saturday, September 23, 2023, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the event."
"The potential impact of the inclement weather on the festival’s ability to provide a safe, fun, and high-quality experience for our community forced us to make this difficult decision."
"While we understand this may be disappointing, we are committed to making a rescheduled festival even more remarkable and memorable."

Barton Orchards Hudson Valley Apple Festival
This family run Dutchess County, NY farm has 175 acres with Pick Your Own options such as vegetables, peaches, apples and pumpkins that hosts a wide variety of events for all ages. They also have live music, a petting zoo and more fun options on site.
The Hudson Valley Apple Festival was suppose to take place at Barton Orchards on Saturday, September 23, 2023 and Sunday, September 24, 2023 in Poughquag, NY.
An announcement was made from Barton Orchards,
"UPDATE FOR SATURDAY 9/23
Unfortunately, it looks like rain tomorrow (9/23)! As a result, although we will still be OPEN 11am to 9pm, our outdoor activities have been cancelled. FREE ENTRY! We will have live music by Follow Suit from 1:30 to 5:30 inside our new building across from the Tap Room, and then Vito Petroccitto from 5:30 to 8:30."
"We’ll have $5 beer specials and half bushel of PYO apples for $25! Concession and Tap Room will also be open. So get out those rain boots and we’ll see you tomorrow at the farm!"
The Hudson Valley Apple Festival's outdoor activities were canceled but the live music, tap room and concessions remained open. Previously this season, they've had a car show, sunflower festival, Oktoberfest and BBQ & Brews Weekend.
The events continue all season long at Barton Orchards. Those interested can spend time at this fun farm every weekend until November 4, 2023.
Their upcoming events are Country Music Weekend, Harvest Festival Weekend, Jack O'Lantern Jubilee, Boos & Brews, Tract "or" Treat Weekend and HV Beer, Whiskey & Wine.

The Village Of Monroe Cheese Festival
A announcement was made by Mayor Neil Dwyer and the Cheesefest team,
"Due to weather "AGAIN" The Village of Monroe Cheese Festival will be canceled for Sunday, September 24th."
"We couldn't be more disappointed at this weather, and we looked forward to seeing all our guests come into the Village for this incredible event."
"It is a difficult decision to cancel, and we kept a close eye on this very unpredictable weather with the hope that it would blow into the Atlantic, but it isn't to be, as we see it."
"Public safety, ability of volunteers to help, and vendor preparations are first and foremost the first priority of the
Village and the Cheesefest team.
