A new study from the CDC shows unvaccinated people are 11 times more likely to die from COVID than people who are vaccinated and are 10 times more likely to be hospitalized from the virus.
"In this study, over 600,000 COVID-19 cases from April through mid-July were evaluated and linked to vaccination status. Looking at cases over the past two months, when the Delta variant was the predominant variant circulating in this country, those who were unvaccinated were about four and a half times more likely to get COVID-19, over 10 times more likely to be hospitalized, and 11 times more likely to die from the disease," CDC director Rochelle Walensky said during a press briefing.
Another study from the CDC found the three COVID vaccines are 86 percent effective at stopping hospitalizations. The vaccines were found to be 82 percent effective at stopping visits to emergency departments and in urgent care facilities.
The CDC also found that Moderna’s vaccine was 95 percent effective in preventing hospitalizations, Pfizer's vaccine was 80 percent effective at stopping hospitalizations, and the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was 60 effective against hospitalization.
"Vaccination works," Walensky added. "The bottom line is this: We have the scientific tools we need to turn the corner on this pandemic. Vaccination works and will protect us from the severe complications of COVID-19. It will protect our children and allow them to stay in school for safe in-person learning."
