Winter Solstice starts on Monday December 21, 2020. This is scientifically known as when the Earth’s poles are at the furthest incline or tilt away from the Sun. Some claim that’s why there’s the least amount of sunshine on that day. Celebrations of this day consist of events, festivals and gatherings that may entail dancing around fires, throwing birdseed, singing and chanting to welcome in the winter season.

In astrology terms, there are also different meanings. I love anything astrology based that has to do with the sun, moon and stars so I’ve done my research. It seems as if the sun is going towards Capricorn. We can let go of loose ends and welcome in new beginnings, you may feel this shift. You can do further research to see what this means depending on your zodiac sign.

After Winter Solstice, we can also look forward to each day getting brighter, the closer we get to spring.

Here are some Winter Solstice events in the Hudson Valley that you can join in on.
