Snapchat Allows for Changing Usernames and These Hudson Valley Residents are Grateful

The day has finally come, we can rejoice in the land of social media.

Did you hear? This may have been a relief to the majority of users and not that important to others. For myself, I was thankful that I finally had the opportunity to change my username.

We all know that we aren't the same people we used to be when we first created our Snapchat accounts.

Snapchat usernames aren't funnier than our screen names from the 1990s.

AIM and AOL were the most important things in our lives.

Before Snapchat, WhatsApp and Instagram, AIM was the main form of communication especially if you didn't' have three way calling, do you remember those days?

If you were born in the 90's then you probably know that I'm talking about. That feeling of creating your name and the sound of a door opening or closing when someone logged on.

We could channel our inner emo selves and use some inspiring quote or song lyric that pertained to the week.

My favorite was adding in whoever I was dating at the time with old school hearts that looked like this, <3. Honestly, these were some of the best times to be alive, if you ask me.

Here are some cringeworthy and embarrassing screen names/ user names.

The staff of WRRV have used these on AIM and AOL in the past. We wanted to share these names considering our Snapchat ones weren't nearly as funny.

Let's remain in the present moment here in 2022 and figure out how to change our expired usernames in Snapchat.

Here's how to change your username on Snapchat.

First off, make sure that the Snapchat app is updated and if so, open the app. Head to the profile screen and then tap on the Bitmoji icon which should be in the corner on the right. 

Once you see that, feel free to tap on the gear icon and select username. Click select change username and then you will be able to change your handle! (Ta, da!) Did you create something funny, close to your name or a nickname? 

Be aware that you can only change your username once a year. This was a relief for myself and I was happy I was able to change it.
