Price Chopper Market 32 Offers Double Value For Pennies

The "Double Exchange Day" will take place at all Price Chopper and Market 32 stores across New York on Sunday, November 16th, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the Progressive Grocery website.

During the one-day event, a penny is worth 2 cents when you exchange it for a Price Chopper or Market 32 gift card, worth twice its value. For example, exchange $10 in pennies and earn a $20 gift card redeemable toward future in-store purchases.

How to Participate?

To take part, simply bring rolled or loose pennies to the customer service desk at your local Price Chopper or Market 32 on 11/16/25, where an employee will count the change and match it with a gift card reward on the spot.

Customers looking to double their change are required to exchange a minimum of 50 cents (earning a $1 card) and a maximum of $100 (earning a $200 card).

Why Offer Double for Pennies?

The double offer is the grocery store chain's reaction to the penny shortage many retailers are facing since it was announced earlier this year that penny production would cease in the U.S. The U.S Mint produced its last batch of pennies in August, and since then, many retailers have found it hard to accommodate customers paying with cash.

Blaine Bringhurst, president of Market 32 and Price Chopper, explained the store's decision to offer double for pennies with the hopes of keeping cash transactions running smoothly.

"Cash transactions remain an important part of how we serve our customers, and for those who prefer to pay with cash, we want to make sure we can continue providing the same great checkout experience — right down to the penny," said Bringhurst. "The Double Exchange Day gives our customers an opportunity to partner with us in that effort while being rewarded for supporting us in managing our coin inventory responsibly as the nation prepares for the phaseout of pennies."
