Here's What It Means To 'Plant By The Moon' In New York State

While I’ve always been fascinated by the sun and moon, I would love to learn more about it. The sun is life giving and provides nutrients to the vegetables and fruits that we grow but what about the moon?

The Old Farmer’s Almanac explained that planting by the moon doesn’t mean that we need to plant in our pajamas at night for it to work. Instead, they shared that it follows the cycles of the moon to get effective growth of plants.

I enjoyed discovering that seeds would need more water between certain moon phases such as a new moon and full moon. There’s even a calendar for when we want to plant by the moon which can be found with The Old Farmer’s Almanac.

They also explained the two phases of when we do this including waxing of the moon and the waning of the moon. The waxing of the moon refers to the time period of the new moon and the full moon. On the other hand, the waning of the moon is a concept of the time from the full moon until the new moon.
