Major changes at a popular speedway in Ulster County should be great news for the Hudson Valley!

Over the last few months, we've done our best to follow the "drama" going on at the Accord Speedway at 299 Whitfield Road in the hamlet of Accord in the town of Rochester, NY. For months the owners of the popular speedway have attempted to get approval for the speedway to be allowed to host 12 non-racing events in 2024.

Accord, New York has Mixed Feelings with Non Racing Events at Accord Speedway

Earlier this year speedway owner Gary Palmer submitted a proposal to the town board to see if it would be possible for the speedway to host 12 non-racing events each year. The proposal was met with split feelings from many within the community with folks who opposed the plans saying the noise and traffic that come along with events would be too much for them to handle. Folks that were in favor of the plans said that more events would bring more visitors into town which would equal more revenue for local businesses.

For months the town, its residents, and speedway owner Palmer have gone back and forth regarding future plans at the track and now it appears there has been a ruling on the non-racing events!

Accord Speedway's Non Racing Events

The Rochester Planning Board has officially approved the changes proposed by Palmer and will allow for 12 additional non-racing events per year according to an announcement on the Accord Speedways Facebook page.

"Well, the cat is out of the bag! The Planning Board voted to approve the change to our site plan allowing 12 additional non-racing events per year (with limitations)."

The post clarified that the speedway was already "allowed to host special events in the past, but would have to get Town Board approval if they were outside of our approved race dates. This is a HUGE victory for us!"

We have reached out to the Speedway to get more details on its victory and to see what events they might be hosting in the future but haven't heard back yet. We can tell you that they have named the outdoor venue Trackside Outdoor Event Space according to the Accord Speedways Facebook page. When more details are available we will update this article.
