
Massive Tree Falls Onto a Truck in Rhinebeck, Driver Trapped
Drivers in the Hudson Valley already have plenty to think about when they hit the road, other drivers, wildlife, bad weather...the usual. But a tree crashing down onto your vehicle? That’s not something most people see coming. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened in Rhinebeck, NY, Tuesday night.
Emergency crews in Dutchess County were called to a serious and unusual scene after a driver became trapped when a tree fell directly onto their vehicle.
Tree Crashes Onto Pickup Truck in Rhinebeck, NY
According to the Rhinebeck Fire Department, crews were dispatched on Tuesday, May 5th, 2026, at around 7:13 p.m. to Mount Rutsen Road near River Road for a reported crash involving a fallen tree.

When first responders arrived, they found a pickup truck towing a trailer with a golf cart that had been struck by a large tree. The impact caused significant damage and trapped the driver inside. Firefighters and EMS jumped into action, working alongside Empress EMS to safely remove the driver while providing care at the scene.
Once freed, the driver was taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital. Thankfully, officials say the injuries were not life-threatening.
Road Shut Down for Cleanup
Mount Rutsen Road was closed for more than an hour as crews worked to remove the tree, clear debris, and make the area safe. The road reopened around 8:30 p.m. Several agencies assisted at the scene, including the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, the Town of Rhinebeck Highway Department, and Stofa’s Towing.
At this time, first responders didn't say what caused the tree to fall or what led to the accident. When more information is available, we will update this article.
