Data shows that a lot of New Yorkers might not be having safe sex.

Safe sex is something most of us are taught but many people don't take it seriously and the infection numbers are skyrocketing.

The CDC reported that the sexually transmitted infection epidemic had no sign of slowing down. It looks like as of 2023 that has proven true at least in New York and several other states.

Where does New York Rank among states when it comes to STI cases?

According to Innerbody.com, as of February 2023, the three states with the highest STI rates were California with 399,673 total cases reported, Texas 294,055 total cases reported and New York 268,674 total cases reported. They also noticed a pattern that southern states had more cases.

The FDA recently approved a new at-home testing kit for certain sexually transmitted infections. The Food and Drug Administration has approved the first approval of an at-home test for infections like chlamydia and gonorrhea.

The hope is that people will be able to use the test and obtain accurate results before spreading infection. Many believe there is a stigma and shame attached to STIs. This may be why a large amount of people are not getting tested.

An at-home test might bring the high rate down in certain states.
