We are inching closer and closer to the most wonderful time of year, sweet summertime!

I know things are very different right now, but we're all trying to make the best of it and safely enjoy time outside. Whether you're walking around neighborhood or turning your yard into on oasis, it's important to protect yourself from those harmful UV rays that come from the sun.

I hate to admit this, but when I was younger I never took sun protection very seriously. When I started doing my research about skincare I realzed how important it is to take care of your skin and start good habits early on.

When you walk into the grocery store or pharmacy there are so many choices when it comes to sunscreen that it can get pretty overwhelming. The last time I went to buy one I think I spent almost 45 minutes in the aisle just staring at all the choices. I came across this article directly from cancer.org and it breaks down what we should be looking for in a sunscreen.

  • Make sure it says "Broad Spectrum Protection"- This means the sunscreen will protect you against harmful UVB and UVA rays, some only protect against one.
  • Make sure it's SPF 30 or higher- The higher the SPF is, the higher the percentage goes up for the amount of protection you will get from those harmful rays.
  • Is it really waterproof?- This was the one that shocked me, no sunscreen is really waterproof (This explains a few sunburns I got an vacation). Check the reapply time on the bottle because sunscreen will rub off, especially in the water.

Stay safe and enjoy the long weekend.
