Grammy Winner to Perform At Hudson Valley Onion Festival
Mmmm, I love onions! I don’t know how I haven’t attended this onion festival within the Hudson Valley. I would love to go this year and see what other fellow onions love the most about it.
A Hudson Valley town has always smelled like onions but, in a good way!
What Hudson Valley Town Smells Like Onions?
While driving on different roads in New York state, we could smell farmland, outdoor bbq’s or even the smell of fresh cut grass.
However, you know that you’ve reached this Orange County, NY area when you smell onions.
There are over 20 miles of beautiful land in the Black Dirt region in Pine Island, NY where you can experience this.
The New York Times explained that Pine Island,
"Has been known for onions, producing some of the spiciest alliums available, thanks to the soil’s high sulfur content, which boosts pyruvic acid, that irritating and delicious compound that makes eyes well up at the cutting board."
Now, that makes sense!
The Jolly Onion also had a home in the onion capital, near the Black Dirt Region in Pine Island, NY. Now, Pasta D’oro at the Jolly Onion is open, paying homage to the historic roots of this area and its love for onions and onion production.
This area loves onions so much that they host an Onion Festival each year.
