We love Fall in New York for bringing changing leaves, apple picking, cozy sweaters, and everything pumpkin spice and nice our way. But let’s not forget what else the fall season tends to bring us.

You’d better start stocking up on the cold meds and tissues now, because the season for hacking, sneezing, snotting and sniffles is almost upon us.


It’s not just an old wives tale - the chilly weather that comes with fall temperatures really does make us more likely to get sick.

Why do we get sick more in the fall?

This happens for mainly two reasons:

  1. The colder weather can suppress our immune system, making us more susceptible to catching something nasty. 
  2. In the fall we generally spend more time indoors, which means we’re in closer contact with people who may be sick and spread their germs to us. (Like how your kid manages to get sick the second they get back to school.)  

But no big deal - most of us can handle a few days of sniffles and sneezes this fall, right?

Even if catching something yucky doesn’t seem like a big deal to you, it could be much more dangerous for the more vulnerable population.


Catching a minor illness could quickly lead to severe complications for young children, the elderly, and others with poor immune systems.
