Exclusive First Look At Sullivan County International Airport’s Upgrades

Sullivan County, NY has been an area where guests would visit to enjoy outdoor activities and local attractions.

They also explained that there were resort complexes from the Borscht Belt that brought visitors to the area along. The Borscht Belt Museum is under way and their pop up museum will reopen this spring to show guests what life was like in the Borscht Belt Region from the past.

The 1969 Woodstock Music Festival which took place in Bethel, NY. Guests can now visit Bethel Woods Center for the Arts to learn about the history from this event.

Governor Kathy Hochul released information about exciting news to come at this airport.

What Construction Will Happen At Sullivan County International Airport?

On March 22, 2024, New York State released information about Governor Kathy Hochul about the start of exciting renovations and constructions that will take place at Sullivan County International Airport.

The Sullivan County International Airport is located within the Catskill Mountains and was constructed in 1969. According to New York State, this project has been awarded $18.5 million through Revitalization Competition along with Upstate Airport Economic Development as well.

To help us understand better, New York State explained that 

"The Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Competition is administered by the New York State Department of Transportation"

New York State shared that Governor Kathy Hochul made an announcement about construction that has started on a project at Sullivan County International Airport. This project will help modernize the current airport along with hopes to

"create a state-of-the-art gateway that will fuel economic growth and foster increased tourism for the entire Catskill Region. "

How Will The Sullivan County International Airport Look Different In The Future?

New York State also shares that this will then replace the terminal that is over 50 years old and instead, there will soon be a brand new, 15,000 square foot building that will also be energy efficient.

New York State explained that one of the major features that guests can expect to enjoy will be in the new terminal building including

"a two-story glass curtain wall that will offer fabulous views looking across the apron, taxiway and runway to the Catskill Mountains, and also provide natural daylight to most of the occupiable spaces."

They continued to share that there will be a restaurant/bar that will be located on the second floor of the building along with a deck that will have outdoor dining options. On the first floor, guests can look forward to spending time under a covered patio with outdoor seating.

With these changes, they have hopes to bring a 

"welcoming destination for visitors to the region and a popular spot for residents to come and enjoy the Catskill Region’s scenic beauty."

New York State explained that additional features and improvements will take place at Sullivan County International Airport.

Guests can enjoy new restrooms, furniture, features and vehicle charging stations as well.

What Jobs Will Be Available At Sullivan County International Airport?

With the changes at Sullivan County International Airport, locals can be on the lookout for upcoming job opportunities in the area.

New York State shared the estimated total cost of this project will be $23 million and will also bring approximately 260 jobs to Sullivan County, NY.

When Will The Sullivan County International Airport's Construction Be Complete?

New York State provided information about the expected date of completion for the construction at Sullivan County International Airport.

It's expected that by Spring of 2025, the work at Sullivan County International Airport will be completed.
