They say that you either like it or you don't, but I disagree. You can like some wine and hate another. Wine like beer can taste very different. You have to find the wine that appeals to you.

Growing up the only wine you found around my house was either "Cold Duck" or Matus. Those two wines were my parents go to wines when we had company. The handful of times I can remember having a glass, I state categorically, neither one were my favorite. My parents were more Gin and Tonic and beer people and so were their friends so wine wasn't really their thing.

It wasn't until I was much older that I met friends who enjoyed drinking wine. They actually planned meals and food based on wines they were serving. This was a whole new world for me when it came to wine. It was about that time that I realized I liked wine and red wine was my preference.

Red wine has flavor notes that I enjoy. Now before you go thinking I am one of those sophisticated wine folks let me set the record straight. I really don't know a lot about wine. And what I do know I have learned for taking wine tours. Red wine can have hints of cherry, pepper, tobacco and berries even chocolate. It's not that I don't occasionally enjoy a glass of white wine or even what i refer to as a pink (Rose') wine, but I prefer the reds.

So why am I taking about red wine vs white? Simple, This Friday August 28th is National Red Wine Day so I thought I would share that fact with you and encourage you to find your local winery. Why not visit one this weekend in order to celebrate National Red Wine Day even if you plan to have a glass of white and support our local Hudson Valley Wineries.
