COVID-19 Tenant Protection Unit Will Be Launched
Since the first day COVID-19 hit our area it's safe to say our lives have been completely turned upside down.
Many people are facing scary and difficult circumstances, but each county is doing the best they can to ease this stress.
Back in March, Governor Cuomo put out an order that gave a 90-day grace period for evictions if people could not pay their rent.
Even those this was an order, not everyone was listening and Ulster County had to create some relief for those struggling.
The county has set-up a special COVID-19 Tenant Protection Program according to Ulstercountyny.gov.
This unit will look at complaints from tenants and help them with the threat of illegal evictions during this time. The unit will have a staff of people from the public defenders office as well.
Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan put out a statement saying "Ulster County has a zero-tolerance for anyone taking advantage of our residents during this time. If you find yourself being evicted during the New York State on pause order, I ask that you reach out to us immediately."
If you are someone or know someone who is having this problem call they can file a complaint at Ulster County Tenant Protection Unit Form or call 845-340-3232.
