
Ulster County Sheriff Warns of Phone Scam Targeting Hudson Valley Residents
Another day, another scam to be on the lookout for in the Hudson Valley.
This time the Ulster County Sheriff's Office is warning about suspicious calls received by residents.
Fraud Alert in Ulster County
The Ulster County Sheriff's Office shared a warning on social media about unusual calls being received by locals in Ulster County.
According to a post on The Ulster County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, they have "received complaints of individuals being contacted by phone reporting to be members of this office with instructions on how to bail someone out of our jail."
In the post, the Ulster County Sheriff's Office goes on to stress that the UC Sheriff's Office "will NEVER contact anyone via phone to solicit any payments for any reason."
What to Do If You're Contacted By Scammers in Ulster County
The Ulster County Sheriff's Office goes into more details about how to keep yourself safe from scammers and what to do if you come in contact with one.
They explain that Government entities will "NEVER request payments for anything be made with gift cards or currency apps such as Venmo or Cashapp."
In the statement the Ulster County Sheriff's Office shares that if you think you're being scammed and are contacted under similar circumstances you should:
cease all contact with that individual. If you believe you are a victim of this scam, please contact our dispatch at (845) 338-3640 to report it.
