Is This The Most Stunning Stretch Of Route 9?
Not something you'd typically hear someone say on the regular, 'what a beautiful stretch of Route 9...one of Dutchess County's most traveled roads; yes the same road where people constantly weave in and out of traffic, have difficulty merging on and off of the exit ramps, and where you get stuck at approximately 25.7 traffic lights each day.
That's the one, that Route 9. Let me explain.

Getting Stuck At This Light Wasn't So Bad After All
Having grown up in the Hudson Valley (Fishkill to be exact), I know that chances are, i'll get stuck at a light, or 12, traveling Route 9 on any given day. While I normally have the radio way too loud, while simultaneously making a to-do list in my head, or anxiously awaiting the light to turn, this week I found myself taking in the beautiful scenery around me.
I know, I couldn't believe this was a busy stretch of 9 in Poughkeepsie either. Coming home from the radio station earlier this week, the sun hadn't quite set yet, the soulful sounds of Dave Grohl singing 'Under You' softly coming out of my speakers, window cracked just a little, and I looked around at what was a truly beautiful scene around me - seriously.
This particular view was heading down Rt. 9 South near the Poughkeepsie Plaza not far from the former Buff City Soap location.

Sometimes We Take The Hudson Valley Scenery For Granted
While i'm not typically a 'stop and smell the roses' or 'take in the scenery' kind of gal, sometimes there's those moments where you just look around and realize how damn lucky we are here in the Hudson Valley to be surrounded by stunning backdrops. I mean, for more than ten years of my life I lived in New Paltz, and I know I took for granted the incredible views of the ridge that were outside my front door....
You can't make it up. This area is breathtaking.
So I guess what i'm trying to say is...don't be like me, take a look around more often, and take in what the area has to offer, even if it happens while stuck in traffic on Route 9.
