Stolen! 56 NY State Checks Totaling $19K! Albany Woman Arrested!
Most of us could use extra money. Gas is expensive, rent and mortgage payments have skyrocketed and our groceries seemed to have doubled in cost over the last month or so. What can we do? Ask for a raise? Get a second or third job? Maybe steal from the company we work for? That's what one Albany woman did.
This Albany woman didn't just steal from the company she worked for, she was employed by the State of New York!
Last December New York State Police were contacted by the New York Department of State to report that a number of checks had been cashed but not by the person the checks were intended for. This is where the investigation began.
On Tuesday July 26th State Troopers arrested 30-year-old Naelle Marius of Albany and charged her with two counts of grand larceny in the third degree as well as petit larceny. Here's what she allegedly did.
New York State police are alleging that Naelle Marius was cashing checks that weren't intended for her while she was employed by the State on a temporary basis. Marius allegedly deposited 56 checks issued to the Department of State for a total of $19,445 that didn't belong to her. That's an average of $350 per check.
Marius surrendered herself to the State Police and was processed at State Police Capital. She was arraigned at the Albany City Court, where she was released on her own recognizance and is expected to return on August 5, 2022.
