Surprise! Unexpected Snow All Across the Hudson Valley [PHOTOS]

This is not how spring was supposed to start...

With the winter season technically in the rearview mirror, New York residents were just beginning to look forward to warmer temperatures when mother nature decided to throw a curveball. Despite assurances from professionals that the Hudson Valley was rid of snow, recently there was a whirlwind of weather across nearly every county.

I couldn't believe the words I heard from our guests as they left our house in Newburgh, NY last night. "It's snowing!", they exclaimed. Worried they were hallucinating, I put on my slippers to see for myself. Low and behold, the second day of spring was looking more like the first night of winter... and compared to other Hudson Valley towns, Newburgh was lucky.

Winter Weather Across the Hudson Valley, NY

"Amenia got all 4 seasons yesterday", reported a Dutchess County, NY resident. "In Minisink we got rain, then hail, then sunshine, then snow then sunshine, then freezing winds all within an hour lol", added a commenter in Orange County, NY. Countless towns reported similarly strange weather (below).

Freak Weather Events in the Hudson Valley, NY

Seasonal transitions are always a little blurry, and even though Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring, it seems like colder temperatures are keeping a tight grip on the Hudson Valley. Unfortunately, this is leading to some freak weather events with multiple types of precipitation happening at once (below).

In the beginning of March, Newburgh, NY saw simultaneous hail and rain within 100 yards of each other. Updrafts, cloud positions, and other weather factors joined together to make the perfectly confusing scenario, with residents needing winter gear and an umbrella on the same street.
