Pride in July Event Returns to Barton Orchards
Pride month is in June and it is to commemorate the Stonewall riots. In 1969, members of the LGBT community fought back against oppression publicly and have continued to fight for acceptance and equality ever since.
June is a special month but why should pride only be celebrated for one month? It's a question that the staff at Barton Orchards in Poughquag, New York asked one day and it sparked the idea for a huge inclusive event here in the Hudson Valley.
The idea for Pride in July came from a brief "what if" conversation that took place in the taproom at Barton Orchards in 2021. With over 1,200 people in attendance that conversation was the launching point for one of the largest events to celebrate diversity and the LGBTQ+ community in the Hudson Valley.
The 2nd Annual Pride in July event will be at Barton Orchards again on Saturday, July 23.
Drop by for drinks, hay rides, an amateur drag show with a $1,000 prize, live music, performances from Summer Orlando & Barbra Streetsand and fireworks.
Jan Sport from RuPaul’s Drag Race will also make an appearance at the event.
