A Hudson Valley native and March Madness standout will continue her basketball journey in the big leagues.

March 2023 was electric for Villanova Wildcat and Our Lady of Lourdes graduate Maddy Siegrist. The Poughkeepsie native led her team to the Sweet 16 and broke some records along the way.

According to ESPN after scoring 20 + points in 36 games, Siegrist has the longest scoring streak of any men's or women's D-1 basketball player. The last to hold the title was now WNBA superstar, Kelsey Plum.

Unfortunately, Siegrist and her Villanova teammates didn't make it to the NCAA championship this year after being eliminated in the Sweet 16 after a heartbreaker against the University of Miami.

Even though her season was cut short, Siegrists' basketball journey will continue on. Siegrist announced in a social media post on March 27th, 2023 that she would be joining the WNBA Draft.  After thanking her family and coaches, #20 went on to thank her Villanova teammates for making this all possible by writing:

I especially want to thank my teammates, past and present. Without them, I would not have had this kind of opportunity. It is a blessing to be surrounded by so many wonderful people.

Poughkeepsie's Own Maddy Siegrist Top WNBA Prospect

According to WNBA.com Siegrist led the nation in scoring for the 2022-2023 season scoring at least 29.2 points a game. Siegrist also was selected for the Associated Press and USBWA All-American First Team and was named Big East Player of the Year for 2022-2023.

With stats like that, it's no wonder she is a top WNBA Draft prospect. ESPN predicts that Maddy will get picked up in the first round in the 3rd spot to the Dallas Wings. ESPN explains:

Siegrist moves up two spots from our most recent mock based on speculation the Wings might be worried that if they wait until No. 5, it would give the Washington Mystics a chance to take her.

The WNBA Drafts air on ESPN at 7 PM on Monday, April 10th. After the draft, we'll post an update on where Siegrist ends up on our website.
