Pizza to Become the Official State Food of Connecticut
It's almost official, the Connecticut House of Representatives has approved a bill that would make pizza the state's official food.
You knew it was only a matter of time before the state that basically put pizza on the map, passed a bill that would make it the official state food.
It happened on Wednesday, and according to newstimes.com the Connecticut House got the bill one step closer to becoming a reality.
The bill now goes to the State Senate, and barring any issues, should be set for approval in just a matter of days. The bill passed in the house by a 131-9 margin.
Once the State Senate approves the bill, pizza will join the American Robin - the State Bird, the Sperm Whale - the State Mammal, the Praying Mantis - the State Insect, Nathan Hale - the State Hero, and Prudence Crandall - the State Heroine in the official State Register and Manual.
Much of the push for pizza to become the official state food comes from the New Haven delegation, where the city is sometimes referred to as the pizza capitol of the world.
In fact, Barstools Sports Pizza guru Dave Portnoy recently called New Haven pizza the best in the whole country. There were, however, legislators from towns all over the state that wanted bragging rights for the great pizza they produced in their towns, but the majority of lawmakers just felt that pizza was that kind of feel good food that people enjoy in good times and in bad.
Some in the House Chamber even pushed for a field trip or two to sample some of the great pizza in the state. Look, it's a tough job, but somebody has to do it.
