Over 300,000 Ring Security Cameras Recalled

While many of us are still stuck at home in lockdown, the idea of having a secure, safe home is top of mind for a lot of people.

In recent years we've seen a boom in home video security cameras. If you've been in the market for one you're probably familiar with Ring. According to a press release, Ring has recalled over 300,000 smart video cameras.

A press release from Consumer Product Safety states that 350,000 units are being recalled in the United States while 8,700 were sold in Canada. The Ring Video Doorbells 2nd Generation are being recalled due to the hazard that they might "overheat when the incorrect screws are used for installation, posing fire and burn hazards."

USAToday.Com, is reporting that the affected products were sold online through Amazon.com and Ring.Com from "June and October 2020 for approximately $100." These Ring Doorbells were also sold at electronic stores around the US.

If you have purchased a Ring Video Doorbell between June and October 2020 the model number that is currently being recalled is: 5UM5E5.

While the press release states that if the Ring Doorbell is installed correctly there is no risk of hazard. However, Consumer Product Safety has reported that they have received "eight reports of minor burns."

They have also received "85 incident reports of incorrect doorbell screws installed with 23 of those doorbells igniting, resulting in minor property damage" according to reports.
