Abandoned Neighborhood Found on One of Ohio’s Remote Lake Erie Islands
WARNING: Under no circumstances should you enter these properties. By doing so you risk bodily harm and/or prosecution for trespassing on private property.
North Bass Island, Ohio is located in the middle of Lake Erie and was established around 1864 when a post office began operations. The island was used primarily as a vineyard
Even though there are some houses on the island and a completely abandoned neighborhood, the island was never fully commercially developed.
In 2007, the island boasted a population of two dozen. On one side of the island lies an old neighborhood...no old stores, but a bunch of deserted homes that have been overtaken by bushes, weeds, and trees.

Getting there isn't too hard...if you wanna go by boat, canoe or kayak, then that's up to you. But there is a landing strip where planes can bring you in and take you out.
The island school is Ohio's "only one-room schoolhouse on an island" and the last one-room school that is still operating. It has since been added to the National Register of Historic Places.
Like Turtle Island, North Bass Island was also involved in a border dispute...but this time, not between Michigan and Ohio, but with Britain and Ohio. The dispute became known as the Battle of Lake Erie, sometimes called the Battle of Put-in-Bay. The battle took place on September 10, 1813 and was over quickly...the United States Navy whomped the British, confiscated six British Royal Navy ships, and took control of Lake Erie for the remainder of the War of 1812.
That being said, now take a look at some photos of the abandoned neighborhood found on the island's west side.
