As of 2022, minimum wage in New York City is $15 an hour along with Long Island and Westchester as well. The remainder of New York state makes $14.20 an hour.

In California, residents currently make $15.50 an hour in 2023.

The State of California Department of Industrial Regulations shared,

" As of January 1, 2024, employees in California must earn an annual salary of no less than $66,560 to meet this threshold requirement."

 

What Will Minimum Wage Change To In New York State In 2024?

Throughout New York state, residents will see an increase in minimum wage. However, depending on where the resident lives, it may be more or less than.

According to New York state,

Governor Kathy Hocuhul made an announcement about the 2024 budget agreement which has created a plan to help,

"low-wage New Yorkers keep up with the rising cost of living by increasing New York's minimum wage for three years and then tying future increases to inflation."

Starting on January 1, 2024, the minimum wage pay will increase.

Governor Hochul also shared,

"In addition to this increase, recent amendments to the Labor Law provide further increases by $0.50 per year on January 1, 2025 and January 1, 2026. "

 

"As required by Labor Law § 652(2), the Commissioner filed proposed regulations to amend existing wage orders." 

While some New York residents may claim that the expenses have increased in the state, we can now welcome a well deserved minimum wage increase for workers.

In Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties, minimum wage will increase to $16 an hour on January 1, 2024.
