Poughkeepsie Native, College Baller, Named All-American First Team
A Hudson Valley native is lighting up the college basketball court, breaking records, and getting ready for a trip to the big dance.
Maddy Siegrist, a 2018 graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes high school in Poughkeepsie, has helped secure the Villanova Wildcats a number 4 seed in the 2023 NCAA March Madness tournament.
From PK to The Big Dance
While playing at Lourdes her senior year, Siegrist averaged 32.7 points a game, 13.1 rebounds and had 6 40-point games. She brought everything she learned playing in Poughkeepsie to the big stage at Villanova University in Pennsylvania in 2019.
Maddy has had herself quite the 2022-2023 season, according to the Villanova Women's Basketball website, she is the 2023 BIG EAST Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a 2023 Katrina McClain Award Finalist, was named to the Wooden Award and so many other accolades.
Plus she posted 15 double-doubles this year, scored at least 20 points in 31 games, broke a 33-year school record for career free throws, and became Villanova’s all-time leading scorer.
Needless to say, Siegrist has got a game and with all of that being said she was also just named AP's First Team All-American.
It's not every day you get to see a Hudson Valley athlete make it to the big time and in such a big way by breaking records and taking names throughout the season. Early on in the Villanova Women's Basketball 2022-2023 season the Wildcats took on the Red Foxes of Marist in Siegrist hometown. Needless to say, she drew a supportive crowd:
Siegrist and the 4-seeded Villanova Lady Wildcats will take on 13-seed Cleveland State Vikings in Round 1 of the March Madness tournament on Saturday, March 18th.
