LEGOLAND New York will not be opening up this year as planned.

In an announcement today, LEGOLAND says that the opening of their theme park in Goshen, New York will be pushed back to 2021. Originally, the 150-acre park was scheduled to have a grand opening on July 4 of this year.

The postponement comes after businesses and construction projects have been halted throughout New York State in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus. LEGOLAND says their decision was made in accordance with guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and evolving restrictions from state and local governments in response to the pandemic,

Stephanie Johnson, the Divisional Director of LEGOLAND New York said that “Nothing is more important to us than the health, safety and security of our team, the partners we work with, and the communities we serve,” She added that “we are in an unprecedented situation that has affected businesses worldwide. By opening LEGOLAND New York Resort in 2021 we are building an attraction that not only meets our high standards, it also gives our guests the best possible experience.”

Those who purchased annual passes or single-day tickets will be honored when the Resort opens in 2021. Employees who've received offers to work for the 2020 season will automatically be invited to join the team next year. LEGOLAND says they still plan to hire more than 1,000 "Model Citizens" to staff the theme park and hotel.

Johnson added, “We look forward to building unforgettable memories with our guests and their families when we open in 2021.”
