Meet my new friend, Karina Rykman! You may already know her from the music industry but I would love to share our time together.

Karina is an incredibly talented bass player who can definitely multi-task. Karina’s also a vocalist and has a lot of fun jumping around the stage around during her shows. Her energy is unmatched and it’s something that we all adore.

If there’s one that we can be certain on, it’s that she was born to do this for life!

Fellow New York state residents always vibe with one another, it’s just the way that it goes! Karina was not only born in New York City but she was raised there too. She has played music since her teens along with attending live music shows in one of the greatest cities in the world!

Karina also attended NYU and is thankful for where all of this has brought her. She gives a lot of gratitude and love towards her friend, Marco Benevento who is known for being a pianist and song writer.

During the interview, Karina shared that talking about New York City is one of her favorite subjects. She expressed that she feels lucky to have such a great foundation in the city where dreams come true.

New York City is not only home to Karina but a place where so many friendships and collabs have happened. Living there continues to give Karina the independence and freedom to venture around and connect with the community.

I love that Karina also formed her own band highlighting indie pop and rock vibes! If you haven’t heard her debut album, JOYRIDE then you should check it out! I was instantly in a more relaxed state of mind and captivated by the music video along with live performances of this song.

Fellow music lovers would also agree that it’s incredible that Trey Anastasio from Phish was a co producer and musician on this album!

During the interview, Karina shared that she is so proud of herself for creating JOYRIDE, as she should be! Currently, she's working on the name for her second record which we already know is going to be incredible.

As for upcoming tours, Karina gave us some insight into where she will be this year. While she's excited to see where it will take her, she's looking forward to going to Mexico with her band and a summer filled with festivals.

There were so many moments during the interview that I felt connected to Karina which is easy to do! She shared that she feels thankful that this is what she gets to do in her life. I feel the same way on a lot of different levels as well.

One of her most recent and special moments on stage has been My Morning Jacket. Karina shared that she has always been a fan and it felt surreal for her to open during one of their shows. They have become friends and they also treat her like a member of the band!

I’ve chatted with fans who have attended Karina’s shows and there’s so much love there. They share how she's so talented, personable and relatable with her fans. I love her down to earth energy and authenticity as well!

What Does Karina Rykman Love The Most About The Hudson Valley?


I was so excited to do this interview with Karina and learn all about her! I was intrigued by her fun outfits that she rocks on tour and had to get the details about them!

Karina shared Johnny Was are two piece sets that she wears. She also referred to them as her “space suits” which is funny and how it doesn't take up a lot of room in her luggage. 

For the most part, Karina enjoys her shirt and jeans that are from the middle school days. Otherwise, Johnny Was are her flashy and fun outfits that make her tour complete!

Karina has performed at Mountain Jam and other popular destinations in the Hudson Valley. Locals have shared their excitement about seeing Karina perform at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock.

She has also visited areas such as Saugerties, Kingston and Red Hook as well. Karina has lived in Rhinebeck before and has a lot of love towards that area.

Anytime she's in the area, she feels as if she's getting a “Hudson Valley hug” and we love that for her! Karina enjoys the warmth of the area and always looks forward to visiting.

The Museum at Bethel Woods is located at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts which is the original site of the 1969 Woodstock Museum Festival.
