
Police Assist Suicidal Man on the Mid-Hudson Bridge
A tense situation unfolded Sunday afternoon along the Mid-Hudson Bridge when a man was threatening to jump from the span.
For the second time in less than a month, law enforcement agencies were called to respond to a report of a suicidal person threatening to jump from the Mid-Hudson Bridge.
Man Threatens to Jump From Mid-Hudson Bridge in Poughkeepsie, NY
According to reports, it all began on Sunday, November 30th, 2025, at approximately 12:58 p.m., when City 911 in Poughkeepsie received multiple calls reporting that there was a suicidal subject on the Mid-Hudson Bridge.

Multiple patrol officers from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department (CPD), along with members of the Hostage Negotiation Team, quickly responded to the scene to locate and assist the person in need of help, according to the City of Poughkeepsie PBA Facebook page.
Police Assist Man in Crisis
Upon arrival, officers and negotiators located the man and began talking to him to try and convince him to walk off the bridge to safety. Thankfully, after utilizing their crisis intervention training, they were able to safely remove him from the bridge without incident.
The man, who wasn't identified, was transported to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment. Officers assisted with the intake process before turning him over to the staff.
Another Suicide Attempt Stopped on the Mid-Hudson Bridge
This was the second time this month that law enforcement was able to successfully talk an individual off the span.
Back on November 4th, 2025, CPD officers and members of the Hostage Negotiation Team were called to respond to a report of a woman on the Mid-Hudson Bridge who had her leg over one of the bridge rails at the middle of the span and was threatening to jump.
Using similar crisis intervention training as used above, officers were able to convince her to step away from the rail. She proceeded to allow law enforcement to escort her off the bridge, where she was met by members of the Mental Health America of Dutchess County, NY Mobile Crisis Team.
