
New York State Offering a New Grant to Homeowners
New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently signed a new bill that will give New York homeowners the opportunity to receive money from a new grant.
If you are lucky enough to be a homeowner in New York, you already know that once your purchase is complete, it's only the beginning of a long road of expenses. New York State ranks as the sixth most expensive place to buy a home according to Redfin, but where does New York rank when it comes to doing any sort of upgrades to the house?

We couldn't find an accurate source showing where New York ranks when it comes to cost of home renovations, but as a homeowner, I will tell you that from my experience, everything seems to cost $5K or more....LOL!!! The good news is that if you are a homeowner and you have a septic system that needs to be replaced, you might be eligible to receive a large sum of money to help with the cost.
Septic System Grant in New York
Last week, New York Governor Kathy Hochul officially signed into law legislation making it easier and more affordable for New Yorkers to upgrade to advanced septic systems that significantly reduce water pollution, protect public health, and improve water quality. According to a press release, the Governor also announced a $30 million investment into round 5 of the "State Septic System Replacement Fund Program" to help homeowners upgrade or replace failing septic systems.
"Access to clean water is a basic right, and communities from Montauk to Buffalo deserve safe, reliable water infrastructure," Governor Hochul said. "I am committed to protecting the health of all New Yorkers, and this bill is a promise to future generations that we will keep building a more resilient, sustainable state while ensuring clean water for all."

New York State will provide funds to counties to reimburse eligible property owners for a portion of the cost of replacing cesspools and septic systems and installing more environmentally effective systems.
How Much Money Can Homeowners Receive in New York?
The new law states that eligible property owners can be reimbursed up to $10,000 (50% of eligible costs) for the installation of a conventional system, or up to $25,000 (75% of eligible costs) for the installation of an enhanced septic system.
Who's Eligible?
25 counties across New York are eligible for the current round (4) of the program, including Dutchess, Greene, and Columbia Counties. Counties that are eligible for round 5 of the program will be announced as soon as each of the counties is notified. State officials encourage homeowners and businesses to contact their county representative listed on EFC’s website to determine if their properties are eligible.
