The New York State Police were busy on a stretch of Route 17 on Tuesday issuing 71 tickets.
The New York State Police (NYSP) have made it clear that they will do whatever they can to make drivers slow down and follow the rules of the road while driving in work zones. To do that the NYSP began conducting an enforcement campaign called "Operation Hard Hat" along random stretches of New York highways to get drivers to slow down.

Operation Hard Hat in New York
Operation Hard Hat targets reckless and distracted drivers in work zones across New York and cracks down on work zone violations while highlighting the importance of safe driving when approaching construction, maintenance, and emergency operations along state highways. Operation Hard Hat usually has a NYS Trooper dressed as a construction worker who will stand in an active work zone and observe drivers that break traffic laws. The undercover trooper will then call ahead to troopers waiting outside the work zone who will proceed to pull the vehicle over that was breaking the law and issue them a ticket.
