5 Towns Left Off New York’s Top Instagram List
Recently I had a friend share with me an article that contained a list of New York's 18 Most-Instagrammed Cities posted by the Kingston Creative and I was surprised by what I read. The five towns I would have named didn't even make the full list of 62, I guess because they are "cities". But 4 Hudson Valley "Cities" did make the top 15.
Let me start by saying that I am not a avid Instagram user, I am still getting there, however I do know a lot of people who use it everyday. I understand enough to know that it is important to "tag" or "hashtag" things when you create a post. So I feel like I have the basics.
Hudson Valley Towns Not on the List of Most Instagram able New York Towns
The article that I saw was tabulated and shared by the Kingston Creative. They did a very good job explaining how they reached their conclusions but that still didn't stop me from saying "Really, these towns didn't make the cut?" Of course it might be because they are towns nots cities but here me out for fun anyway.
West Point, New York - The United States Military Academy at West Point has one of the most beautiful view of the Hudson River and offers the public access to its storied past. Rich with history and stunning architecture I can't imagine that this place hasn't been featured many time on someone's Instagram feed. Between the famous people in the Cemetery and the lively band concerts West Point is very hashtag worthy.

Just South of West Point on the Eastern side of the Hudson River is another town that I would have thought would have made the list, Cold Spring, New York.
Cold Spring, New York - Sits right on the east shores of the Hudson River in an area that has very majestic views of the western shore. This charming little river town is also a popular stop on the train to and from New York City.
Main Street Cold Spring in lined with shops and restaurants. It is the type of town you can spend all day visiting. Local boutiques offer unique items. Local restaurants offer delicious food and locally sourced food.

Along with shopping and dining Cold Spring also is a place where you can access great hiking which is popular along this stretch of the Hudson River. The Washburn Trailhead in located just north of Main Street Cold Spring. You can get to it by car or it is just a short hike from the train station.
New Paltz, New York - Heading back north one of the towns I would have thought would be a shoe in when it came to any Instagram rankings is New Paltz, New York. New Paltz is home to so much, it is one of the gateways to the Shawangunk Ridge, it has a New York State University just like Oneonta, New York who ranked 12th on this list and it is just south of Kingston who ranked 8th.
New Paltz is home to one of America's oldest streets. Huguenot Street has history dating back 400 years. A trip to Ulster County isn't complete without a visit to the Historic neighborhood located in the Village of New Paltz.
New Paltz is also home to long standing restaurants like P & G's and McGillicuddy's. The Town and Village are full of outstanding small businesses offering Instagram users much to focus on like the sculpture walk at Water Street Market. There are farm markets, wineries, breweries and world renown hiking spots like Minnewaska State Park.
Woodstock, New York - The town not the site of the actual Woodstock Music Festival, that is in Bethel, New York, is another great town for tracking your fun on Social media. The Mower's Market which is held on Saturdays and Sunday's starting in May and running through late fall is truly a place to find treasures.
There is plenty of shopping and dining in Woodstock including the famous Candle Mountain at Candle Stock. It is an actual candle that has been burning since 1969. Now that is for sure an Instagram hit. Plus Woodstock has a very popular Film Festival, The Woodstock Film Festival which has been known to be attended by some really big celebrities.
One more town that I was surprised didn't make the list was Rhinebeck, New York. I feel like this town is one of the most photographed places in the Hudson Valley.
Rhinebeck, New York - Starting with the Beekman Arms and the Delamater Inn which has been serving food and offering people a place to stay since 1766, it seems that Rhinebeck would be a place to snap a photo and hashtag some history. Like most of the towns on the list there are great shops, delicious restaurant and Rhinebeck also boast many famous residents.
The Dutchess County County Fair is another place that people flock to from all over the state to enjoy fair food and topline entertainment. All reason for people to share a moment on Instagram.
I realize that the list that was published had it criteria, one being "Per Capita" but I just could not let my observation go so hopefully the Kingston Creative doesn't mind me adding my two cents or should we say my five towns.
