The building where Newburgh Brewing Company resides was built in the 1850s. It was once a steam engine company, a yarn factory, and the Newburgh Paper Box Company.
The Newburgh Brewery team is thinking that there must have been some sort of accident during the earlier years that is causing the haunting.
The City of Newburgh Historian told them:
the looms and spinning equipment in the earlier mill (the yarn factory) could have caught up a worker. That was fairly common and not everyone survived.
There's been a possible update on who is haunting Newburgh Brewing Company thanks to "some intrepid sleuthing" by historian Salvatore LaBruna.
According to a social media post from Newburgh Brewing, LaBruna found the person who died while working at Washington Iron Works.
Hugh Elwood died on the grounds of what is now Newburgh Brewing Company back on January 18th, 1867.
There's a New York Times article which reported that Elwood was a fireman. The article explains that Elwood was "thrown violently against a wall" during an explosion in the building.
The explosion caused "bricks and timbers" to fall along with a large beam that unfortunately fell across Elwood.
You can see the NYT clip and read the full breakdown of Elwood's death below:

After everything you've read...what do you think?
When Paul first shared the security videos from the Newburgh Brewing Company Kitchen, we reached out to see if he really thought his taproom is haunted.
Paul told us that he and the Newburgh Brewing Company team believe the building is indeed haunted, he added "Almost definitely kitchen focused. We've had stuff that has moved overnight. Like the garbage cans and some of the knives."
After a couple Newburgh Brewing Company beers, I think I would be down for a ghost hunt...
