Important Travel Advisory Issued for Mid-Hudson Bridge
Drivers planning to cross the Mid-Hudson Bridge this weekend should be prepared for delays as overnight construction work is scheduled on the Poughkeepsie side of the bridge.
The New York State Bridge Authority (NYSBA) has issued a travel advisory for Friday night, June 12, into Saturday morning, June 13, as crews continue work on the ongoing rehabilitation project along the bridge's east approach.
Lane Closures Planned on Mid-Hudson Bridge in Poughkeepsie, NY
According to the NYSBA, drivers are being warned to expect delays this weekend as workers begin installing new pre-cast concrete panels as part of the ongoing $34 million rehabilitation project. To safely accommodate the construction equipment needed for the installation, traffic will be reduced to a single lane with alternating directions while work is underway.
The lane restrictions are expected to begin at approximately 10 p.m. Friday and continue until around 10 a.m. Saturday. Officials said the overnight schedule was intentionally chosen to reduce the impact on drivers by avoiding the bridge's busiest commuter hours.
Anyone planning to travel across the Hudson River during that time should allow for additional travel time. Drivers are also being reminded to slow down, stay alert, and follow all posted signs when approaching the work zone.
Mid-Hudson Bridge Construction Project
The Mid-Hudson Bridge is one of the busiest crossings in the Hudson Valley, connecting Poughkeepsie and Highland, and most of us know that even a minor traffic issue can quickly lead to backups, especially during the busy summer travel season.
