Nothing says Spring and Summer are around the corner more than local ice cream shops opening up. I expect over the next few weeks many of our Hudson Valley Ice stands will be opening for the 2024 season.

I know quite a few ice cream places stay open year-round but a few close up for the winter and when they announce they are opening is when you realize that the cold winter weather may be over. Before you know it lines will be forming at some of our favorite soft-serve places.

One place that closes for the winter every year is the Jolly Cow in Lake Katrine. Known for their cow that everyone loves to pose with and their twisty tall soft serve cones. The Jolly Cow is a destination for Hudosn Valley Ice Cream lovers.

I have friends who will only go to the Jolly Cow for ice cream. The double-flavored twisted sones are their favorite. The Jolly Cow does make those cones seem to defy logic by the way the ice cream swirls and layers with the flavors carefully blended only in the middle.

So The Jolly Cow has announced that this Saturday will be opening day. Your firs chance to grab a soft serve cone at the window in 2024. It is great news but unfortunately, it also comes with possibly some bad news.

I have reached out to the Jolly Cow for clarification but have not heard back. It seems this weekend they are only opening the original location in Lake Katrine. The new store in Port Ewen that they opened last year was not part of the announcement and it is being speculated online that the Jolly Cow won't be coming back to that spot this year.

Port Ewen Jolly Cow May Not Open this Season.

People on that side of the Kingston Area are disappointed. Last year the Jolly Cow opened in the former Rainbow Drive-In ice cream place in Port Ewen and the community embraced having them in the neighborhood.

It is not clear if the Jolly Cow will be opening there this year and if they aren't what could be the reason. Hopefully, I will hear back from them and can share the news that they are returning later this summer.

Don't Forget the Jolly Cow had Pup Cups for your canine buddy.
