
Fuel Truck Carrying Massive Load Crashes in Woodstock
A fuel truck carrying over 2,000 gallons of oil crashed Thursday morning near a Ulster County creek and began to leak into a nearby creek in Woodstock, New York.
It was a tense couple of hours for first responders and nearby residents in Ulster County on Thursday after a fuel truck rolled over on MacDaniel Road and began to spill home heating oil into the Sawkill Creek.

It all started just before 9 a.m. Thursday when a Bottini Fuel truck carrying over 2,000 gallons left the roadway a rolled over after failing to make a sharp turn on MacDaniel Road. The truck proceeded to crash through a guardrail and started leaking oil into the Sawkill Creek.
First responders from the Woodstock Fire Department responded to the scene to quickly assess the situation and determined that it was going to need assistance to stop the leak and requested that the Kingston Fire Department Hazmat Team respond to assist.
Hazmat Team Helps Stop Oil Leak in Ulster County
According to the Kingston Fire Department's (KFD) Facebook page, they received the call for help at 9:01 a.m. and quickly sent twelve of its trained hazmat personnel to the scene. Upon arrival, the hazmat team, along with other responders, fought high water levels, challenging and steep terrain due to the recent heavy rain, to slow the oil leak and minimize environmental impact to the waterway.
Oil Leak Contained in Woodstock, NY Area
In order to contain the leak, crews placed an additional "boom" five miles downstream from the crash site to help capture the fuel oil that had made it past the immediate scene. This was done to minimize how much the oil spread and to protect the surrounding environment.

Responders were at the scene for hours and were able to turn the truck upright, while contractors pumped off the remaining product. They also checked for oil levels in several downstream locations to make sure there was no fuel oil detected. Thankfully, the tests were negative.
The truck driver was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but there's no word on his condition. This is an active investigation, and when more information becomes available, we will update this article.
