2nd Five Below Locations Opens in Dutchess County
Dutchess County shoppers have been patiently waiting for a new Five Below location to officially open their doors.
If you haven't heard, Five Below announced a new location in the Poughkeepsie Plaza. In April 2026 we learned that the popular retailer would be opening in the old Jo-Ann Fabric location.
The time is finally here. Five Below at the Poughkeepsie Plaza is officially open as of August 13th, 2026.

We took a stroll through the location and they have everything for back-to-school, make-up, clothes, toys, candy and so much more. It looked like they were getting ready for Halloween too!

The History of Five Below
I feel like the Hudson Valley only recently jump on the Five Below train.
Did you know Five Below first opened back in October 2002 in Wayne, Pennsylvania? According to Wikipedia Five Below was designed to be target towards teens and pre-teens by selling everything between $1 and $5.
Which is why is makes sense that Five Below is the hot spot for those squishy toys the kids are crazy about this summer.
Five Below now has over 2,000 stores nationwide in 2026 with a handful here in the Hudson Valley.
Poughkeepsie Galleria Growing By The Day
While we're on the topic of shopping centers...
Not only is the Poughkeepsie Plaza thriving with their new Five Below location, but so is the Poughkeepsie Galleria.
Over the last few months the Poughkeepsie Galleria has been announcing new stores opening up within the mall.
KUP, Kids Ultimate Playground officially opened on August 8th, 2026. It's a new indoor playground where kids can play on awesome slides, an obstacle course, in an arcade and so much more.
In the fall of 2026, GAP Factory will open upstairs at the Poughkeepsie Galleria. The original GAP location closed a few years back, but shoppers are super excited for the GAP return.

While it's not opening any time soon, the Poughkeepsie Galleria announced that in 2029 they will welcome Dick's Sporting Goods House Of Sports.
It's a much bigger version of Dick's Sporting Goods that gives customers a chance to try out equipment within the batting cages, on the rock wall, and in skating rinks.
