A birthday party in Fishkill turned violent last month, leaving a 20-year-old man seriously injured and three Newburgh residents now facing felony gang assault charges.

According to the New York State Police, it all started back on Thursday, July 23rd, when troopers were called to assist the Town of Fishkill Police Department with a reported assault at a private residence in Fishkill.

Investigators said that the incident happened during a birthday celebration when an argument between partygoers escalated into a physical fight involving multiple people.

Suspects From Newburgh Identified

Police said that the 20-year-old victim was allegedly assaulted by 21-year-old Baboucarr E. Camara, an 18-year-old man, and a 17-year-old male, all from Newburgh. Authorities say the victim, who was not identified, suffered serious physical injuries during the attack.

Following the investigation, State Police announced that Camara and the 18-year-old suspect were both arrested on July 31. Each was charged with gang assault in the second degree, a felony. Both men were arraigned in the Town of Fishkill Court and released under the supervision of Dutchess County Probation. They are scheduled to return to court on September 2 at 9 a.m.

The third suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile, was arrested a few days later on August 3 and was also charged with gang assault, a felony.

Unlike the two adult defendants, the juvenile was ordered held at the Woodfield Cottage Juvenile Detention Facility after arraignment. The juvenile was scheduled to appear in Dutchess County Court on August 4.
