If you’ve driven around your town lately and spotted a ripped-open garbage bag on the side of the road, you already know that it's becoming a big problem!

It’s one of those things we all see...and react the same way. You pass it, shake your head, and think, " Who does that?" Better yet...who ends up cleaning that mess up? In East Fishkill, NY, the answer is the town’s highway department. And right now, they’re making it clear, they’ve had enough!

Garbage Becoming a Real Problem in East Fishkill, NY

The town's highway department says there’s been a noticeable increase in people dumping trash along local roadways. They took to social media to call it out, asking residents to step up and help keep the community clean. They said:

“There has been a huge increase in garbage being dumped along our town roads. Let’s keep East Fishkill looking like a great place to live. Please dispose of your trash properly. Roadside dumping does not look pretty, and it costs additional tax dollars to clean up—we still have to pay to get rid of it.”

And that last part is what really hits home. It’s not just ugly, it’s costing everyone money!

You’re Paying for Someone Else’s Laziness

Every time someone dumps garbage on the side of the road, it doesn’t just magically disappear. Town crews have to go out, pick it up, and dispose of it properly, which isn’t free. So yeah, that trash bag someone tossed out their window? You’re helping pay to clean it up.

It Could Cost You Big If You Get Caught

If someone thinks it’s no big deal, they might want to think again. Littering in East Fishkill isn’t just frowned upon; it comes with fines that can add up quickly.

If you're caught, fines start at approximately $50 for the first offense. The second offense will cost you at least $247, and they go up from there.

Bottom Line

This really shouldn’t be complicated. Throw your garbage out the right way. Don’t dump it on the side of the road and expect someone else to deal with it. Because in the end, it makes the town look worse, costs everyone money, and puts more work on the people who are already out there maintaining the roads.

And honestly...it just makes you look like a jerk.
