HVARS in Poughkeepsie Steps In to Save Severely Neglected Dog and Her Puppies
The team at Hudson Valley Animal Rescue Sanctuary in Poughkeepsie, New York is sharing the heartbreaking story of one of their latest rescues.
HVARS Receives Lifesaving Request from a Fellow Rescue Organization
Hudson Valley Animal Rescue Sanctuary shared a post on social media this week that is heartbreaking and heartwarming all in one.
The Poughkeepsie based rescue received a phone call from another rescue that in their words was "already stretched thin" and couldn't take on "a case this severe."
HVARS was introduce to Grace. Sadly, Grace was a new puppy mom and had been "tied up outside and left to die." They explain that Grace
stayed in the same spot, doing the only thing she could as a mother—feeding her babies. Every ounce of nutrition her body had went to them. She gave them everything, even as she faded.
Grace and her puppies were found, but Grace was in bad shape. The dog was too weak to even stand and tragically, one of the small puppies did not make it.

Thankfully, Hudson Valley Animal Rescue Sanctuary has the space to take Grace and her puppies in.
When Grace and her puppies arrived at HVARS the team got an up-close look as to what they were facing. The puppies were "anemic, flea-infested, full of worms and severely underweight."

Grace was then rushed in to receive medical care. HVARS reports that she was "pale, barely responsive, and had to be carried inside." Grace didn't move for hours, they say "she hardly moved...except for her tail."
Grace's tail "never stopped waging" which the rescue team took as a small sign of hope that Grace was still fighting.
Help Grace and Her Puppies at Hudson Valley Animal Rescue
HVARS explains that Grace has a long road to recovery. They write:
Grace needs all the positive thoughts and support she can get. She has a long road ahead, but we believe in her—and we can’t wait to share her transformation with you.
With that, if you're interested in donating to Grace and her puppies recovery, you can do so at HVARS.org/donate. HVARS explains that
monetary donations are the most impactful right now, as they require prescription diets and ongoing medical care
As of right now, HVARS says Grace has slowly and carefully began the "refeeding process" and she's able to walk outside "on her own a few times a day."
The puppies are currently in a foster home and "finally receiving the care they need - and they are starting to thrive."
Grace and her puppies story started off rocky, but thanks to the team at Hudson Valley Animal Rescue Sanctuary, they have a bright future ahead of them.
