The Hudson Valley has already had its first snowstorm of the season. We were able to take in the tranquil scenery, make snowmen and snowangels as well.

It was also the first time since last winter that local residents had to get their snowplows out.

Sometimes when it snows in the Hudson Valley, we want to curl up inside with a cozy blanket. We may wait until it stops snowing to go outside and shovel. In fact, others may wait until the next day to see if any of the snow has melted.

Depending on where you live in the Hudson Valley, you may have to clear your sidewalk off earlier.

The Port Jervis Police Department shared a helpful post on their social media platform. They are reminding the community of what is expected of them after it snows in the Hudson Valley.

The Port Jervis Police Department explained,

Port Jervis City Code (§ 464-43) mandates that property owners clear sidewalks adjacent to their property within 24 hours after snow stops falling.”

They also mentioned to,

“Maintain a clear path at least 36 inches wide for pedestrian safety and accessibility.”

In addition to this Orange County, NY city, there are other Hudson Valley areas that have similiar mandates.

Do All Hudson Valley Towns Have To Clear Sidewalks After It Snows?

The City of Poughkeepsie shared helpful information about what is expected of their residents with their Facebook post. These guidelines relate to snowy conditions in the area.

The City of Poughkeepsie explained that residents have to clear any sidewalks along with fire hydrants. This would have to be done within 12 hours after it stops snowing.
